Civil Division

Under Louisiana law, the District Attorney’s Office acts as general counsel on civil legal matters for the parish police juries (the parish governing authorities) and the local school boards, as well as the other parish political subdivisions (including the various fire protection districts, hospital districts, E-911 communication districts and library boards of control) within the Fifth Judicial District.

Our office’s Civil Division handles litigation involving these public bodies, and advises these public bodies on issues involving state law, especially those provisions applicable to governmental bodies, such as the Open Meetings Law and Public Bid Law.

M. Kyle Moore presently serves as Civil Assistant District Attorney, heading the Civil Division on behalf of our office.
